It has happened to us a couple of times. We were happy to oblige, but
insisted that the requesters paid *all* expenses connected with the
arrangement, including our legal costs and our own time charged at
normal consultancy rates.

The devil is in the detail; the agreement has to be worded such that
they can maintain their customers in the event of your ceasing to trade,
but the cash offered by Behemoth Inc. when they buy you up isn't reduced
by the apparent compromising of your software assets. You should be
careful to retain full Intellectual Property Rights to the software.
