Perhaps VANs should be re-labeled CANs: Cost Adding Networks.  ;-)

More seriously, will VANs become obsolete if organizations are already
paying for to have reasonably reliable Internet access, with security
features and we have standards for e-commerce? But then that time might be
a long time coming.
