Perhaps the strings on those golden parachutes should be cut ;-)

I agree that certification should not be mandatory, but when big players like
WalMart make it mandatory, the market changes.

You've got the pig in a poke analogy backwards.

The software is very expensive because Drummond Group charges over $60,000 for
certification (and then many thousands additionally per year). This makes it
very difficult for smaller companies to develop & sell AS2 solutions for less
money.

If the certification was eliminated (or price drastically reduced), there would
be a lot more people developing solutions, which would drive some of the costs
down.

It's really unfortunate that companies like Ipswitch (who make WS_FTP) have not
branched out from ftp to http and produced something like WS_HTTP.

I'm all for EDIINT because it will eliminate very costly VAN charges, but the
prices for AS2 software make penetration into the majority of small/medium size
businesses very difficult.

The thing that really bothers me (can you tell?) is that the EDIINT/AS2 is
supposed to be a public, open standard, like X12.

I'll have to do more research into the Open AS2 project...
