How does QRS get the trading partners contact information?

When I worked in more supply chain for consumer products companies like
KMART, WALMART, and TARGET etc. QRS was a frequent offender of offering
these terms to a partner they picked up and sending these letters out to
that entities trading partners. If you are a Tier One(Top 100 vendor)
trading partner and QRS sent you one of those notes with regards to a JC
Penney or any other large retailer, I would print a copy of it and send it
through the Business Unit so it gets directly back to the retailer. In most
cases for Tier One suppliers the retailer has NOT requested the move at
all. Rather QRS is deriving exponential gains by redirecting the business
directly to them. If you call QRS for a quote on business they will not
hardly cut you a break. Interconnects are actually more secure in some
senses than having a shared VAN service. The mail bag trail maintained by
VANS is usually better and more definnitive should a case get to court than
a shared VAN BOX. The ability to show when a retailor's VAN had access to
data is directly available on an interconnect. not necessarily available on
a shared VAN resource. Anyhoot, just my $.02

When you have a TP that does not allow interconnects (JCP did this for a
while), or require you to be on a specific VAN (Gottschalks did this).

The guy with the money calls the shots. If a TP makes a sweetheart deal
with a
VAN, contingent on convincing all their suppliers to switch, you may not
have a
choice.
Gottschalks did this in 2000.
"Gottschalks has recently selected QRS Corporation as our sole solution
provider." and "All vendor based EDI communications must utilize the QRS
network. Interconnecting between VANS will need to be eliminated".
I agree that it's totally unnecessary, completely dishonest and against
the
spirit of EDI, but the suppliers always have a choice... not to do
business ;-
)
