We currently use Sterling, GXS, and Inovis. Out of the bunch, GXS stands out as the junker. We use their VPN connectivity, which is a manual process- you have to login daily by hand using a checkpoint firewall client (free download). Their must be a better way to connect to GE, I just haven't found the time to alter our configuration. The GE van has experienced several outages in the past year, where I don't recall the others having problems. The whole network wasn't down repeatedly, but there were times when some services were unavailable, and several complaints on these lists. The Desktop GE software is functional, however clunky. It commonly locks up when handling large volumes of docs.
If you have the option, go AS2. We've since converted the dialup connection to VPN, and that seems to run ok. We've replaced the EDI*Desktop software with our own stuff (because of additional requirements), but it seemed to work adequately.
