Barbara,

Generic 856 Map .. that seems like an ellusive thing. I strongly support
generic mapping where I can get it adopted. Inbound I have generic maps to
service the inbound 850's. However, the 856 is not one that I can do
generically. Our TP's want specific things in specific sections which makes it
difficult to map it to a generic map. Some of my trading partners ding me for
sending an extra REF segment. I can't afford for an ASN to reject due to extra
segments and have shipments arrive without an ASN causing large deductions.
I think it goes back to profit centers for our TP's.
I have seen three deductions on one ASN where the truck arrived before the EDI
ASN did (which our whse was only 30 minutes drive from customers dc)... 1) No
ASN (when the truck arrived) 2) Late ASN (after the 856 was received) 3) No
UCC128 (because when the truck arrived no ucc128's in their system).
With guidelines like these to live under, going generic is not proffitable for
the supplier..
Just my 2 cents.
Denise

Subject: [EDI-L] Generic TP Maps vs. TP Specific Maps - 856 EDI Documents

Yes, once again I am still curious, I would like to know how many of you
tend to lean towards a Generic EDI 856 Map for all of your Trading
Partner, as opposed to a Partner specific Map for the 856 map, please
keep in mine that this is one of the most complex EDI maps, and most
trading partners have definite requirements for the 856. I appreciate
any and all comments. Once again Thanks.
