I have experience with both formats and greatly prefer X12. The main reason is that in X12, all of the details related to the release (qty, date, forecast indicator, RAN number, and timing qualifier) are all on one segment (FST). In EDIFACT, many of these values are in different segments, which makes it more difficult/complex to process.
