Chris,
You've just delayed the 600 orders I sent you that I need NOW!  Too bad, I just
bought them from your competitor instead.

As a programmer I am used to writing applications which start out just
doing their job - sunny day solutions. Then they get error checking
added, and grow considerably in size and complexity. This is a
never-ending story, because the number of possible error situations is,
if not infinite, very large. At some point you decide that enough is
enough and release the application to market. If the job has been done
well unforeseen errors occur infrequently, but inevitably they do occur.
You then have to decide what to do about them. Normally I change the app
to handle the error. It may be an unlikely situation but at least it is
an error which has happened, and thus is a lot more concrete than all
its brethren who are still purely hypothetical.

So I would go with management here - put in a fix. I agree that it is
irritating to do so.

Regards
Chris
