We definitely are very interested in supporting universities and hope you will
continue to deploy OpenSolaris and Solaris.

I see now that our Solaris support pricing web site does not include
OpenSolaris. This is an omission that we will fix as quickly as possible. Thank
you very much for bringing this to our attention.

I am not an expert on support. The following information is what I have been
able to gather today. Though I work at Sun, please do not take this to be the
official word from Sun on OpenSolaris support. I hope this is helpful.

This page:
http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/edu/promotions/download/solaris_support.html
should include the following part numbers for OpenSolaris support subscriptions
for educational customers:

EDUOSSOL100-ST
EDUOSSOL300-ST
EDUOSSOL500-ST
EDUOSSOL1000-ST
EDUOSSOL1500-ST
EDUOSSOL2000-ST
EDUOSSOL3000-ST

EDUOSSOL100-PR
EDUOSSOL300-PR
EDUOSSOL500-PR
EDUOSSOL1000-PR
EDUOSSOL1500-PR
EDUOSSOL2000-PR
EDUOSSOL3000-PR

My understanding is that the prices for these support subscriptions are the
same as for the corresponding Solaris support subscriptions shown, and then
educational customers get a 50% discount from that.

In general:

o Updates are delivered as IPS packages, not as patches. Several IPS
repositories are available. You must have a Sun support contract to access the
Support repository at pkg.sun.com.

o The support life cycle is 5 years.

For more general information, go to
http://www.opensolaris.com/learn/subscriptions/ and click "OpenSolaris
Subscriptions" near the top of the page. This takes you to OpenSolaris Support
on sun.com: http://www.sun.com/service/opensolaris/ This describes support for
everyone, not just for universities.

I hope this helps,
