I wouldn't call the work done at PARC as 'failed research projects'.
On the contrary, they were extremely successful research projects,
which was a large part of the problem.  A good many people at Xerox
did not want to become a successful computer company, and as soon
as it became clear that this was something that was not a pipe
dream, but something very realisable they worked very hard at
making sure that this did not happen.
