Same here, sometimes after a new database download, clamav gets 100% of cpu
for a lot of time. I did download and installed strace utility in the efw
box and traced the clamavd process, showing the process reading the database
( at least is not died or in inconsistent state ) , waiting to finish the
read process is the only way that we have found be the best, killing clamav
or other movements could end with a corrupted database and mad clamav,
preventing the mail to be served until clamav is up & running well again
