You should have both. Oh, well. You can follow the other option of going into the system, device manager, and follow the other suggestion... change the power settings of the USB generic hub in the power tab to never allow the power saving. I would suggest, though that something else is going as those settings should not have to be changed. My equipment runs fine without the settings changes for the RS232 to USB adapter.
