Eric's opening to Jim about bad luck was right on the mark. I've been a subscriber on this reflector since before my K3 #24 shipped from (then) Aptos, and got to watch history unfold. My first experience with Elecraft was with K2/10 #2810, a kit, sometime in the year 2000.
For a sophisticated and full-featured HF-6m-2m transceiver, the K3 has a high degree of customer satisfaction. Much more praise in general than public complaints, though both are deserved. The quality of Elecraft's customer service and support far exceed the industry performance standard. This means they compensate for negative issues with their products; they "make it right". Quite often, this is in the form of an exchange or replacement of the faulty equipment. Excellent support _within_ the organization, plus a knowledgeable user community assist users in the field. When I built K3 #24, I equated this level of support to "white blood cells". I had some trouble, asked a couple questions on the support list, and almost immediately received a phone call (from Greg, AB7R, a Field Tester). When I learned this degree of field support was considered common, I was impressed. On average, there is little to complain about with any Elecraft product that I'm aware of. But averages are just like any sum. Extremes don't show in an average. And it's just a number. There will always be some number of units, of any kind and from any manufacturer, that when received don't meet customer expectations. That can nearly always be remedied, and Elecraft *always* makes good on its promise that your satisfaction with their products is a number one priority. Try that with any other amateur radio manufacturer; you won't get far. This is well known, and often mentioned, here on this list. For all this to work, the user must communicate with the support organization. Seems important to mention this. If you're having a problem, you don't have to go it alone. 73, matt zilmer, W6NIA <the usual disclaimer> ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
