In addition to contesting, I use it to call friends for a pre-setup sked. They often don't show-up on-time or can't make it. I quit after five minutes with no response.
During FD several years ago, I took over the 40m station after a nearby lightning strike took out the primary K3. The back-up had no DVR. That was the longest four hours of the event (not a contest)! I have also used the DVR for Special Event Station operations when the rates slow down.
