Base loading is the MOST inefficient method of antenna loading.
Yes, the antenna may well be resonant, but the current carrying
portion of the antenna is confined with-in the coil.
This is (one) of the draw-backs of the Yaesu ATAS series of
HF mobile antennas. They're base-loaded.
