The current procedure is done that way on purpose: Build the KX1 then add the KXB3080 or KXAT1 modules.
Building the basic KX1 first allows you to test and ensure the KX1 works correctly before adding the modules. Otherwise troubleshooting to find a building mistake becomes much more difficult. Wherever possible, all the Elecraft rigs are built in increments with in-process testing to catch any errors as quickly as possible when the mistake is most easily located and corrected.
