Heh, heh... Hams are *everywhere* When packing stuff that will be x-rayed, it's good to consider the image the screener will see. Years ago, when I was traveling filming documentaries, I unthinkingly packed a brand new Beaulieu motion picture camera in a carry-on case. The Beaulieu had a long zoom lens and a small body behind it with a nice pistol grip underneath.
As it ran through the X-ray, the operator stopped the machine, looked, called someone else over and, the next I knew two armed security guards escorted me to a table where I was instructed to open the case. And this was long before 9/11. On the Xray, it looked exactly like some sort of automatic weapon. After we totally disassembled the camera and they peered inside every part, I was allowed to continue. On subsequent flights I was careful to ask the people to inspect the contents visually. I've taken my K3 as carry-on through numerous airports, without fail, it always gets looked at, swabbed, and then they let me go...I guess I have the thug look or something.
