I certainly second Geoff's suggestion of EZNEC. While I'm wary of modeling programs in general (remember, "garbage in, garbage out"), I use EZNEC to give me a "feel" for what can be done in a certain set of conditions and to draw a general idea of whether a design or change is likely to be worth implementing.
I have used the full version for years, and consider it worth every penny of the roughly US$100 it costs. (http://www.eznec.com/) EZNEC takes a bit of effort to learn to use at its fullest capabilities, but it's a lot less physical effort (and more comfortable in the winter) than climbing about up trees and raising masts for months and months ;-) And it's fun... A free version comes with the ARRL Antenna Handbook. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
