Possibly I don't understand all of the technical considerations, but doesn't what you say make sense from a theoretical standpoint anyway? An analog system is kind of the equivalent of infinite sampling and processing. I would expect there to be SOME less-than-perfect effect of sampling a weak signal in the presence of spiky noise with any realistic sampling rates.
