I just now responded to one in which Forest argues for simplicity.
AFTER figuring out this method in detail, you have to explain what the complexities mean to the voters.

Possible variations:
1) If there is no CW, and the approval winner is not in the inner-most unbeaten set, do some sort of comparison between the Approval winner's approval rating and the magnitude of victory of each candidate who defeats the Approval winner.
I don't recommend this one, but I toss it out for any interested parties to chew on.
2) For the margins fans: When the CW and Approval winners are different, compare the margin in the pairwise contest with the margin between them in the approval contest. Whoever has the larger margin of victory wins.
I toss this one out there to avoid the lengthy "Margins vs. Winning Votes" debate, so that neither side feels slighted.
