I would suggest that you build an image you like at susestudio.com. You can
select what you want for the gui environment or whatever. Makes it easy to
build what you want. ☺

@brian: nice! yes, wifi comes to mind quickly for PCIE. I saw it on Intel
Galileo boards too, but i haven't tried it. I think I'll test wifi mPCIe
connectivity ...

@david: nice to see a Suse cluster with that small board. your blog post is an
interesting read. the power problem seems an interesting one to delve into. but
first, for "single" machine users like me, it's hard to get a relation to the
giga flops unit. well, I am not planning to run a cluster with x86 processors,
but the idea of running Suse could be interesting. what would be a good image
for a USB stick to try it out?

btw, does anyone make use of the mPCIE connector?
what type of device do you connect?

small update: the msata drive works great. I could install freebsd without
problems, and performance looks great so far too.

I am getting a second minnowboard with msata drive for doing some more linux
experiments. interestingly, the msata drive was not recognized by the debian
USB installer. i will need to understand what is wrong there. Also, i am
curious if I can switch msata drives across minnowboards.

Patrick,
as far as hardware connections you can use the onboard sata connector or use a
lure. in my case i bought a silverjaw lure.
http://www.tincantools.com/MinowBoard_Max_Add-ons/Silverjaw_Lure.html
and i used a samsung 850 on the m2 / msata connector.
as far as the steps to setup the flashdrive with bsd i'm gonna have to step
through the process again myself since it has been over a year since the last
time i did it and do not off the top of my head remember all the steps however
i'll update tomorrow afternoon after i've gone through the process again.

Hi,

I was playing a bit more with the Minnowboard last weekend.

a) I tried a FreeBSD install onto a USB Flashdrive but the boot did not work
yet, maybe I miss something. I was basically stuck in the UEFI shell, only now
seeing the fs0: command to try booting from the new drive.

b) Instead of working with a USB flash drive, the SATA drive option sounds
interesting. Yet, I can't quickly see what cables I need, esp. for powering the
SATA drive. Anyone has pointers here?

Thanks a lot!

Patrick
