Elegant would be for packages and modes to have a way to tell
server.el what to do. Forced exit is never going to be elegant IMO.

From a cursory read of isearch.el, isearch itself is a hack (though
very useful).

The better fix is "easy": implement concurrency in Emacs (at least the
cooperating form of it).

Yeah, well. The thing is, what do we do now wrt the isearch problem?
