Some say that GNOME is mostly funded by RedHat and IBM, but,
I’m not sure about this. Anyway, I’m not so much happy about
the decisions the new RadHat was making in recent years. I’d
not like that company to be the main sponsor of Gnome.
Besides, I think the recent decisions Gnome has made was not so
much user-friendly either.
You may contribute and improve whatever you wish. Look there are
different forks of Gnome.
My or a few others’ contribution to Gnome and/or GTK doesn’t
change the direction they are heading to. However, that’s
another topic.

Sure. In my mind, buying free software with an emphasis on ‘it
being a free/libre product’ has similarities to donation.
Perhaps, it’s even better than donation, I don’t know.
I look at it as "transactions" involving exchange.
A donation constitutes a transaction involving an
exchange. Unlike direct purchasing where consumers receive goods
or services immediately, donors give with a broader
perspective - considering not just personal benefit but the
welfare of society as a whole. Donations are contributions made
by individuals who prioritize general wellbeing over immediate
self-interest, understanding that their act is intended to
support and uplift communities at large.
True.
When assisting certain students through challenging
circumstances, I am aware that their experiences foster learning
not only for them but also equips them to extend such support to
others in the future. This perspective shifts my focus from an
individualistic viewpoint ("me") towards a society's one ("us").
You explain all that very well. Excellent and thanks.
