Me too; I don’t follow Gnome’s development, anymore.  I may stumble at
an article or news post talking about Gnome, sometimes, nothing more.
However, I guess that Gnome’s course of direction is going to strongly
effect GNU/Linux desktop.  Particularly, GTK.

Also, I don’t know how much of conspiracies around Gnome, GTK and,
Fedora is true.  What I know is that I don’t like many of the changes
and the decisions they are making.

It’s at the moment the heaviest DE among all; Heavier than KDE now.
It’s now the most limited and restricted one by default too.  However,
it’s the most /beginner/ friendly desktop environment I ever seen too.

Nice!  I may like IceWM or FWM even more than Xfce4, which is my current
default desktop.  However, I don’t need to try a new DE/WM, at the
moment; Xfce4 is doing just fine.  I’m mostly using Emacs, a terminal
emulator, a bunch of CLI programs, a web browser and so on; A get the
gist of it.
