Misc notes on reading this thread: - I love Gmail threading, I hate it that once you load a conversation, all messages get marked as read. I would suggest that we only mark as read messages in a thread that have scrolled into the actual viewport.
- On marking as read, I hate when in Mail, in a list of messages, you click to select a first message, with the intention to shift-click to multi-select a list of messages, but now that first message is marked read. This is complicated, because often we want to do a quick repeat/hold-↓ to mark a bunch of messages as read. So maybe I'm coming up with the very specific suggestion to unmark as read once you finish the muit-selection. Whatever, digression. - Using HTML views for the subject list/tree: probably a bad idea. What's the performance impact? And how about maintaining the mac-ness of it without a lot of work? - Duplicate emails. They happen for a lot of reasons, nut just bad list operation. Would be great to silently (plugin?) group messages that have identical bodies and basic headers, even when some other (generally non-user-visible) headers differ. Misc notes on windows: - Multiple windows. Seldom used, but gotta have them. Don't you just hate when you need two views of the library in iTunes, but the best it can do is offer you playlists on separate windows? I want to stabstabstabstab it. - Working with multiple windows in letters in a useful way: it would be great if multiple windows were easily organically created, instead of going through the silly New>Window and getting a default view that's generally the last thing you need. Here are some examples: - Duplicate current window. Generally you're at a point you're not sure what to do, and the thought you have is that you want to branch. Duplicate the window, try whatever you want without fear, drag and drop between the windows if you need. - Drag a new window out of UI elements. (May compete with other drag operations, modifier keys may apply.) Eg. drag a subject in the list view to open the thread in a separate window, in a conversation-style view. Drag a source from the source list to open a list-view of that. - Drag a few messages out of a conversation view to be able to refer to them while typing a reply. Etc. On Mail and widths: I have totally given up on a sensible Mail table view. They'll never fix the random resizing of columns. Whatever. I just ignore it. I resize the Mail main window constantly, to fit the message I'm reading. Maybe also because I change display often (notebook, external). _______________________________________________ [email protected] mailing list List help: http://lists.ranchero.com/listinfo.cgi/email-init-ranchero.com
