Which is fine if your in otrol of the entire mail space as yu are with a POP3 client.

This does not work with IMAP. As I understand it there are very specific requirements for how messages are handled in IMAP as they move from draft to sent process.

Remember, someone may very well have three or 4 mail clients pointing at the same identical IMAP account, you cannot do anything unexpected.
