I've been looking at Mulberry and I can say that in terms of designing a
UI and most especially in terms of handling preferences ther are few mail
clients I've seen that are worse that Mulberry.
I keep Mulberry around as a secondary mail client for several features that
I haven't seen implemented as well in other clients. The UI is very
difficult to work through but once configured I like it. I just dread ever
having to re-configure it.
1) It's IMAP implementation is fast and complete.
2) It handles multiple identities that come into one account very well.
That means if I reply to a message sent to "[email protected]" the reply
comes from "[email protected]" and not the account e-mail address of the
current mailbox. Identities can define just about everything about a
message - from, reply-to, sender, what folder to keep a copy of the message
in, what certificate to sign the message with, signature, extra X-Headers,
etc....
3) server side searching of multiple mailboxes simultaneously. And supports
true server side searching of body text of messages. It is significantly
faster for me to do server side searching than client side.
4) Disconnected mode. I can set it per folder to keep client side copies of
e-mail. I primarily use this as a backup method for important e-mail
folders, but if I traveled with a Mac laptop I'd certainly use it to be
able to reply to e-mails on a plane then send on the ground (since very few
of the airlines out of my city have wireless access in air yet)
5) Message redirect/bounce. I prefer this on some messages over Forward
since it keeps the headers intact. It's especially nice for doing support
on mail problems specifically because all the headers are kept intact.
6) Server side sieve scripting editing. This UI is really bad on mulberry
for this, but server side rules are a huge benefit of IMAP.
I don't use it much, but it does have an interesting way of being able to
switch between a 3-pane mode and a window for everything mode.
