Sometimes you get *good* mail with the words SEX, FREE, and PROFIT in 
the subject line?  :O

So, it sounds like the only places where you should expect to find a 
personal message are in your inbox and your SPAM folder.  If that's 
true, and the message you're searching for isn't in either of these 
folders, you should stop searching immediately.

But you already said that you don't always see every subject line as it 
flies by the Connection Status window at DSL speeds.  So it sounds to 
me like you *always* need to search your inbox and your SPAM folder 
whenever new mail arrives, just in case you missed something.  And if 
you always have to search these folders, what difference does it make 
if you do or don't see a suspicious message flash by the Connection 
Status window?

(By the way, if you *always* have to check your SPAM folder for 
messages, you don't really have a SPAM folder -- you have a second inbox.)
