David: I have been following your thread and investigating along with you to learn what was up.
I discovered (as did you probably)by looking up .mov under Helper Applications in IE Preferences that there were many types of files handled by Quicktime all set to download to Temporary Files so I started to change the destination setting to my Downloads folder (which I keep handy on my desktop). I then decided it would be more efficient to find the Temporary Items folder and put an alias of it into the Downloads folder which I could then check periodically. Thanks for the tip as to where the heck it was - Sherlock merely showed it as residing on my HD nesting in no other folders so I gave up looking for it! However, then, I noticed that in IE Preferences, under Download Options, I had chosen to "Always Download to Download Folder" over "Always Use Download Location from Appropriate Helpers". So I have trashed the Temp folder alias, since: > >Second, the Temporary files folder, was set to DELETE It's CONTENTS, upon >quitting IE. mine must be so set too(not sure where)- which is not such a bad thing - once I found it, I realized its only contents were recently acquired banner ads. Which I guess don't download in the same way. I have never lost a download I wanted to lose - they always do end up in my Downloads folder where I can trash them at will. I did not download the .mov under discussion because of having to use my already slow 56k modem at 34k due to "dirty phone lines" but I wonder if it would have gone to your temporary items folder like a banner ad or into a more permanent place if you had so specified. I hope she wasn't using the expression schmiel at you BTW!
