You could try installing Baton Mail. I've never used it myself, and I've never met your mother, so I don't know if she'll have any difficulties using it on a regular basis. But it's the only way to use Emailer with SMTP servers that require authentication.

Unfortunately, it may be simpler in the long run to switch her to a different email client.
