I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. There is a web site where I can click on a link to get a class roster for an upcoming class, and one of the fields is the email address, but many of them say "not on file." And there is no requirement for students to give their email address. On the first class night, I pass around the roster and ask them to update phone numbers and email address, but some of them don't enter an address. I guess the previous suggestion to require them to send me an email with a specific subject had some merit, but it would be one more admin requirment among many, and I'll guarantee some would fail to comply or would use a different subject and screw it up. There are enough of them that can't even manage to read my syllabus telling them which classes to turn in which assignments.
