Within Emailer, I selected New Folder in the Folder pull down menu and
wrote "Emailer" in the Window asking for a folder name - only because I
needed a new folder to put Emailer mail into.

Then, when I clicked on the newly created folder, I found it to be full
of mail that had originally been filed in a folder named Updates -
totally unrelated to Emailer.

After that I retrieved much of the missing mail by continuing to create
new folders. I would start by selecting new folder, naming it xx which
conveniently filed it at the bottom of the list and then once I knew what
had ended up inside, I would rename and reposition accordingly.

I have to say Emailer is still acting a little peculiar since its rebuild
(and, of course, from before or I wouldn't have _had_ to rebuild) but I
am leery of losing more mail despite this method of retrieving most of it!
