Hi Chris-
For a spell I was using my granddaughter computer and the Mail program and it worked quite well once I got over my not wanting to let go of Emailer and try something new. However I still prefer Emailer, in spite of some problems. Why is it that someone cannot take Mail and incorporate Emailer characteristics, or simply write something similar to Emailer with the improvements we speak of, such as the font issue? I know it is copyrighted but Mail has features similar to Emailer and so does Eudora and I do not understand why more cannot be done for Emailer. After all Chris you seem to have made improvements to it, haven't you? Along this line, if Emailer is so good, and we believe it is, then why to the current and new programs not produce something similar but with improvements?

regards,
doug

Has anyone else on this list have experience running Emailer under Tiger?
When Apple switches to Intel processors, what are the prospects for
Emailer?

Currently, Apple has said there will be no Classic in the Intel version
of OS X. They have not made it as clear if it will also be removed from
the PPC version (the next version, will be dual as the PPC is expected to
be sold thru at the end of 2007).

No Classic means no Emailer.

HOWEVER, this does no prevent someone else from writing something similar
to a Classic system. There are already Mac emulators for Windows, so
there is a REALLY good chance one of them will be ported for Intel-OS X.
If one is, then you could just run Emailer under that.

I'm getting a bit nervous as January draws nearer when it's said Apple
will make the processor change.

They aren't going to come to your house and remove your processor forcing you to the Intel. Emailer will continue to run on your computer at least up thru you upgrading to a new version of OS X, and that assumes the next
version of OS X will not have Classic (I will not be surprised if it is
removed as it is a good excuse for Apple to finally and fully drop
support for it).

Also, I do not believe January is the date, it is June. Apple said the
first Intel machines will be out mid 2006. I'd also make a strong guess
that the first machines will be laptops. The Powerbook/iBook line has not
seen a serious upgrade in a while, and that is mostly due to the fact
that the G5 is not energy efficient enough to make a decent laptop with
it. Intel on the other hand has some blazingly fast, super low energy
processors out there specifically geared towards the portable market.
