I just used Claris Emailer to send mail through Earthlink as follows:
OS 9.1
Claris Emailer 2.0v3 (I don't know if this is the "SMTP Auth hacked version
or not, but I don't think so.)
Dialup by modem to Earthlink modem number
account setting:
email account: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
SMTP Server: mail.earthlink.net
I was able to send an email through that dialup account without using any
auth setting.
I frequently use Outlook Express 5.0.6 with a modem dialup connection to
Earthlink to send mail through Earthlink. In that case, I use the the mail
authorization settings that are available in Outlook Express's Account setup
window. The SMTP server is <smtpauth.earthlink.net>.
Earthlink would like you to use their authorized SMTP mail sending server,
but Earthlink does not require it if you are directly connected to
Earthlink.
