Actually, in my Mail in Preferences, in the General Tab Emailer is not
listed but there is a Select line in which one can then go to the
Classic OS and select Emailer. But then I'm using OS X .3.9 in which I
have never had a problem with Emailer except that I'm using my
granddaughters G4 and she prefers Mail.

What I can't manage to do is have Emailer open when I click an email
link
on a web page. Apple's Mail opens instead.
This is easily, if counterintuitivly resolved.
Open Mail
Open preferences (command-comma)
Click on the General tab
The first item is Default Email Reader
Click on the down triangle
Navigate your way to Emailer
Select Emailer
Hit OK
Close preferences
Quit Mail
