Ellen,
The response from Dreamhost's Karl F., Abuse Coordinator, is a good one.
I take it that you are forwarding your domain mail through Dreamhost to a
Comcast POP box, and that you are then picking up your mail from the Comcast
POP box. You don't say it, but I presume that you are using Comcast's SMTP
(email sending server) to send your email.
Dreamhost is suggesting that you stop forwarding your domain mail from
Dreamhost to Comcast, and instead set up a POP box at Dreamhost. You can
then use Claris Emailer, or any mail program (Outlook Express, Entourage,
Thunderbird, etc.) to pick up your mail from the Dreamhost POP box.
You said that you don't like the Dreamhost's mail system ("though I can get
it on the Dreamhost web site where there's a very inefficient mail system
compared to Emailer.") I think you mean that you don't care for Dreamhost's
Webmail interface. If you set stop forwarding the domain email from
Dreamhost to Comcast, you can set up a new Account in Claris Emailer to pull
your mail from the new Dreamhost POP box.
If you also get mail sent directly to the Comcast POP box (such as news and
bills from Comcast, itself), you can have two Claris Emailer accounts: one
for POP mail from Dreamhost, and another for POP mail from Comcast. You can
setup both Claris Emailer Accounts to show your "From" address as your
ellenfletcher.net address. Or you could setup each account to show
different "From" addresses (one From ellenfletcher.net, and one From your
Comcast address).
If you want to do this, you need to do two things:
1) Stop forwarding your mail from Dreamcast to Comcast, and setup a POP
mailbox at Dreamcast. (Alternately, you could setup your POP box at
Dreamcast, and still forward copies of the messages to Comcast. Then you
would have _two_ sets of the same email.)
To stop forwarding the email from Dreamcast to Comcast, and to get the POP
box setup at Dreamcast, Dreamcast will either have instructions on their
email hosting web pages, or you can call their tech support and ask for
guidance. Once the D
2) Setup a new Account in Claris Emailer with the appropriate info pointing
to the new Dreamcast POP box.
Good luck!
