Hi Skid and others-
I copy and paste pdf files into most any of my apps.
The original problem I introduced was how can I insert or copy and
paste a Word file with both text and line drawings into a Classic App.
such as ClarisWorks or AppleWorks, WordPerfect. None of the Classic
Apps will allow me to Open a Word file, complete with formatting and
graphics. And a straight Copy and Paste does not always retain the
proper positioning of Graphics.
Then that got us into discussing those Classic Apps., pdf files etc.
Someone said they could Open an RTF file in AppleWorks but I have not
been able to do this.
regards,
doug

This has been a very confusing thread, especially since I cannot
locate a message with subject of "Turn PDF into Word and more" that
is not a reply. Therefore I am not sure what the original poster was
seeking to do. Udo Huth is correct in saying that the question has not
been fully answered. I know that there are commercial programs that
convert PDF files into formated text but I cannot comment on those.
This will not work for all PDF documents but what I do when I want to
save editable text from a PDF is to select and copy the text and
paste into a text application. I know that this works on PDF files
created by Word on a PC since I receive such files and have copied
text from them for saving in a text file. The formatting is not
preserved but for most cases I can do some simple formatting to get
the gist of the presentation.
Whenever possible I open all PDF files in Preview as Acrobat reader is
horribly slow on my system. I now create PDFs from the Print dialog
but I used to use PrintToPDF in OS 9 and of course then read PDFs with
Acrobat Reader. I believe the copy and paste worked the same back in
OS 9 days.

Ok so no one has answered this really.
Print to pdf works the opposite of what is saught.
What we are looking for here is pdf to word or pdf to pages
or something like that pdf to Pages would be a great tool.
As far as I know (at least with Mac OS Classic) the only way to
change a PDF
into something else is the full version of Adobe Acrobat. It lets you
save
the contents of a PDF to some different formats. RTF being one of
them.
