Bea, I forgot to add that I have friends in my home who often plug in their laptops to my telephone hook up and they don't have any problems either.

Some months ago I decided to get high speed internet from Earthlink. We

through two modems and 3 routers before we discovered that our house did
not
receive the signal well in the office and didn't transmit to my wireless

laptop. We finally concluded we had to go to cable. They say its
supposed to be
extremely fast - it is faster than dial up but not the way it's described
as instant
connection and download - there are pauses. It turns out we are at the
outer edge
of the central transmitter and the construction of our house with thick
walls and
chimneys impede the wireless signal. Thus it transmits 17 feet okay but
beyond that
to where I usually use the laptop (my bedroom) is where I can receive up
to 9 a.m.
in the morning, but during the day and in the late evening, I have to
move into the
office with my laptop to download and/or send.

I recently looked into Vonage as a way of reducing phone:
international/local and
internet service and because of the added phone advantages, but I came to the conclusion, for the above reasons that it would not work in my house.
Anybody have any knowledge/thoughts about this?

Bea
