When I try to send (or receive) mail using the copy of Emailer on the

clicking the "Connect" button on the "Connect Now" dialog has no effect.
It doesn't trigger any action at all. No error messages, no error log,
nothing. If I remember correctly, the "Connect" button doesn't even
"depress."

If the Connect button appears to be non functional, there are two things I would check.

1. if you have more than one account (and thus you get the account list with check marks to mark each one you want to perform the action on), uncheck all the accounts, then recheck one, then see if it lets you do the connect. If so, you should be ok to go back and recheck any of the ones you want checked.

2. Be sure you have TCP/IP setup properly. If you are using OS X, be sure TCP/IP is setup correctly for Classic.
