Because HTML in message bodies, leads directly to ordering your next
bunch of spam, and giving feedback (unintentionally), to commercial
and
malign companies.
I suspect its more likely that I'm the one out of tune, but I use
Mail on 10.4.8 and if I'm having all these problems that you
describe, I'm not smart enough to realize it.
I rather like it when people send me photos and they are in the body
of the email rather than showing as an attachment. I'm behind a
router, a use the Spam blocker service provided by my ISP, and I get
maybe 5 to 10 pieces of spam per day. Mail sorts all but 1 or 2 to
the junk folder to be dealt with at my leisure. I think I used to get
a lot more spam when I was using OS 9 and CE.
Again, I've read so much about all the bad things that can happen to
me because the ability to display HTML, but so far what I don't know
isn't hurting me. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a
sophisticated user, but Mail suits me fine now that I'm used to it.
Its free, is constantly updated and supported by Apple, and I don't
have all these concerns with work-arounds that I see mentioned on
this list.
