This is only true of systems that load external references or try to
execute embedded code without your permission.
Apple's Mail does neither (well, there is a pref setting to allow it
to load external refs automatically, but any sane person would keep
that turned off and then for HTML mail they want those things loaded
for, such as the Best Buy flyers that I signed up for, they can click
the Load Images button that is on the email)

completely abandoning iTunes,
So junk iTunes, there is no requirement to use it, and nothing relies
on it. Pick out your favorite MP3 player of choice and use it instead.
