I've no idea what the problem is, but the first typical step to clear this up is to quit Excel, trash the preferences file, and then restart. Since you don't say what OS you are using, or what version of Excel you're using, the location of the Preferences file will be in different locations with different names. My prefs are located as follows. Note that the ~ indicates your home folder, in side your Users folder.
