<No, that is they weird thing. It isn't the ISP that really matters,
it is the SMTP Server that you are trying to connect to. So whatever
server you have in your SMTP Server field in Emailer is the server
that needs to support port 587.>

The fact that it fails everywhere but his place is odd. Unless he was
just trying to make your life easy and is capturing the port 587
traffic and redirecting it thru a mail server of his choice. It does
sound like he would have the knowledge how to do that. But then, if
that were the case, I would think it would be just as easy for him to
do it with port 25 and not have you use a different version of
Emailer (unless doing so was easier then just isolating your port 25
traffic and he didn't want to deal with relaying his own email).

Very strange.>

Yes, strange, but I don't think he did anything "special" to his
"wireless dialup" to accommodate me, because I never specifically told
him I installed the Port 587 version of CE in my iBook to use at his
house (but I was able to use it there). At that time, I was still
operating under my confused erroneous assumption that CE Port 587 was a
"wireless" version of CE, and when he had told me he had "wireless
dialup," I just quietly installed the Port 587 version. When I got there,
it worked. Next time I go I ought to experiment and see if "regular" CE
works there too.

But HERE is the weird part: I have the *exact same* SMTP Server
information entered for BOTH my email accounts. I have two email
addresses with my ISP, and they also have different domains, too: this
one at cybernex.net, the other one ends in @nni.com. NNI bought my
original ISP Cybernex a number of years ago, but I stayed with them....a
couple years after that, when I got the second email addy I ended up with
the @nni.com one -- and for BOTH addresses, the SMTP Servers are
"smtp.nni.com." And, I have the exact same setup for this on both the G4
and the iBook. However:

1. Regular CE will NOT send my email if I'm on the iBook with a WiFi
connection.

2. Port 587 CE will NOT send my email EITHER on the iBook with a WiFi
connection OR on the G4 connected on dialup with my normal internal
modem, but,

3. Port 587 CE WILL send email if I'm on the iBook connected to my BF's
"wireless dialup."

Until I can find out if "regular" CE will send email with the iBook on my
BF's "wireless dialup" (and that may be a few more weeks), the only way I
KNOW I can send out email with CE is using "regular," on the G4, with my
standard dialup connection, or 587 on the iBook at my BF's house.

Oh, and Apple Mail won't configure on the iBook with WiFi. It fails to
connect with the SMTP part of the process -- the little gear just spins
and spins, and spins, until I run out of patience.

Maybe I should just go download Thunderbird or something. My BF has that
on his Macs, and he says it works fine for him. ::::sigh:::::
