Sorry guys, I'm behind on my mail these days. For what its worth, I have yet a different twist. Since Emailer can be renamed to any new name desired, I did so, called the new copy 'Archives' and then moved the old mail database over to that copy. Once a year move and all is happy and marked off by the calendar. Then in order to go a step further and have total access all the time, I changed the name of the preferences file it calls (requires a small bit of Res Edit work) and it is then possible to run both the archives copy, and the regular copy at the same time. Move the database stuff and all is happily done. Since I like using multimonitors (you haven't lived until you try it)... my master email copy opens on one screen while the 'archives' version can be opened on a different screen so that I can even keep track of which is which just by where 'stuff' is sitting on the desktop. Then just for the humor factor, I switched the Archive copy to use an entirely different email address. That makes it possible to send myself emails between different addresses on opposite monitors of the same machine. Why anybody (other than me) might have an excuse to do that I dunno... but it was funny realizing that it was possible. An even more irrelevant bit is that since I also run two machines beside one another, (can you say five monitors side by side by ...) there are occasions that call for sending myself file transfer emails between the two machines. One is used as the OSX machine and the other is still on OS9. Ze wife 'loves' 5 monitors cranked up at 3am while she's trying to sleep. Brownie points anybody!
