Got this from a friend of mine on another list who's pretty computer
savvy in the Windows and Linux environments but not with Macs - anyone
have any tips or info for him that will help with this? Thanks -
Charles.
One of Renate's students is welded to an Apple word processor that saves
files with a CWK extension. I think that's Clarisworks, which I
believe has
been taken over by Filepro. She's upset she can't e-mail her files to
teachers, because they can't read them.
Does anyone know if Claris will save files to .doc, or .rtf files, which
Word will read? Or, maybe plain text, which is not optimal because of
MLA
(Modern Language Association) style sheet requirements. Microsoft has
its
own non-standard idea of HTML, but maybe that would work if Claris can
save
to .htm.
Renate came home with thumb drive with files on it.
I was able to pull the text out of the .cwk file with a text editor and
paste it into Word, but only after I whacked out the embedded nulls
with a
hex editor. That kills formatting and makes the Word document the
equivalent of an ASCII file. My theory was she could take the Word
file to
school, put it on a school computer, and fix it. She doesn't like Word.
I also suggested she try Openoffice, which will save DOC files, but I
have
some doubts if her computer is current enough to use it.
So, Apple Gurus, will the Claris word processor save files to some
format
Word can read, or is there a free program that will run on an Apple that
will convert from CWK to DOC files, or does anyone know how new an
Apple has
to be to run Openoffice?
