Right, we should probably pick one format for photographic and 
illustrative images, like jpeg.
And, another one for text and drawings with fine detail, so that they 
GAIN clarity when
enlarged, as opposed to jpegs which appear MORE blurry when zoomed in.  
(I know that
is an ocular illusion.)

Using the right image format also makes image files smaller, which 
improves viewing
speed when online.  (Nothing like getting some hideous scanned document 
with 20 lines
of ASCII text in it, but it balloons to 5 mb due to the speckles, 
grey-scale scanning, etc.)
