I finally had some time to look properly:
I would say I am excited about this development. This is most certainly the
way industry is going.
It has been in the works for at least 5 years. (Of course I was declared
crazy at the time when I vented this opinion
in front of my boss) Big names like Airbus and Boeing are crying out for
it, thats quite clear.
This is not some kid playing with a tabletop machine, it is not even Artek
writing jerk limitation. It is much much
bigger than that. Can you see the marketing potential?
On the down side:
there is going to be some major hacking and breaking, both in the parser
(obviously)
and also real-time motion will not be the same at all after this surgery.
On the up-side: al our wishes will come true if and when this is pulled off.
This then leads to the question: How many man-months did Fabian get
available to him?
Next question: What drive interface does Fabian need / want / is he
willing to develop.
So far nothing much has been done on that side except some work on a
Beckhof / Ethercat interface.
Everything else works fine but is not really state of the art.
Perhaps we should have a serious look at SERCOSIII. the cnc-side code is
opensource.
And it is certainly popular in Europe.
But I suppose I have waffled enough now, lets get some answers first.
Cheers to all of you
j.
