Sure, it would be great if eliminating a bottleneck or two turns out to be all we need to do, but I'm not holding my breath. Curiously, Plan 9 (the OS from AT&T, not the movie from Ed Wood!) has recently been reemerging in the Internet consciousness. I don't think Plan 9 is the answer, but the outside-the-box thinking that went into its design is a model for the thinking I believe could emerge in LinuxCNC too as we see new opportunities in the ARM world.
