I noticed there are 'new-style' HAL components/drivers for hardware such as "hostmot2" and "pluto_servo", but then there are 'old-style' components/drivers that start with hal_. I found these (there may be others): hal_parport hal_ax5214h hal_motenc hal_ppmc hal_stg
There does not seem to be manual-pages for these in the docs? Any particular reason for that? (I would have guessed the parport component is something newbies need help with immediately. Maybe it is covered in the main text of the manual?) Instead of trying to create and update a list of hal-components in the main text of the manual I would suggest the man-pages are autogenerated (as they are now), and preferably grouped into sub-sections for easy browsing of the HTML online or locally.
