On Sunday 16 December 2012 15:17:03 Michael Haberler did opine:

[huge snip]

Since it seems to be /usr/bin/milltask that is the likely suspect, some
data on my installed version:

gene@lathe:~/linuxcnc/configs/my-lathe$ ls -l /usr/bin/milltask
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 385484 2012-12-15 18:32 /usr/bin/milltask

gene@lathe:~/linuxcnc/configs/my-lathe$ sha1sum /usr/bin/milltask
6e6d2d301fab676fe438fca51a70570af61ca33a /usr/bin/milltask

2 Q's then, starting with its being supposedly replaced this morning, that
is yesterdays date Or is that the build date?

2. Is it contaminated according to that sha1sum?

For comparison same version, but from the mill's machine

gene@shop:~/linuxcnc/configs/my-mill-atom$ ls -l /usr/bin/milltask
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 385484 2012-12-15 18:32 /usr/bin/milltask

gene@shop:~/linuxcnc/configs/my-mill-atom$ sha1sum /usr/bin/milltask
6e6d2d301fab676fe438fca51a70570af61ca33a /usr/bin/milltask

Looks identical to me, but the mill runs fine.

So that idea seems to have been worked over with a 1928A1, aka a tommy gun.

I have by now, commented out whole sections of the .hal file, trying to
isolate the defective section if there is one, to no avail.

Next?

Cheers, Gene
